Biogas typically refers to a gas produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic digestion). Biogas is a renewable fuel comprised of approximately 60% methane and has approximately 2/3 the fuel value of non-renewable natural gas. Biogas is commonly used to generate electricity for the local electrical grid and to provide heating or cooling for residential, commercial or industrial users.
